Hand Quilting
With Susan Chiappini
one afternoon, in person
Saturday, May 25, 2024, 10-2:00
Glebe House, 635 Main Street in Poughkeepsie
Come learn the fundamentals of quilt construction in this weekend workshop with local quilt maker, Susan Chiappini of ArrowMaker Quilts.
In this workshop Susan will cover
marking fabric in preparation for hand quilting
Creating the quilt sandwich where the marked fabric is layered on batting and backing
Hand stitching techniques
Thread and needle choices appropriate for the type of stitching we're doing
Use and adjustment of a hoop for hand stitching
There is fabric at Fall Kill students can choose from, but they can aslo bring students their own cotton solid or tiny print fabric. Fall Kill will provide rotary cutters, self healing cutting mats, and 18 x 24” grid rulers to share, but we encourage you to bring your own, if you own these tools.
*Please note that this is a skills workshop, so you won’t go home with a finished quilt. You should come away with a quilt square and will have a solid working knowledge of fundamentals for creating your own unique pieces.
